Food ok. Not pricy. Not very tidy. Small place to eat something. OK.

Probably anyone who reads me will get tired of my saying this, but this isn't Mexican, sorry. Perhaps it's Tex-Mex-inspired, but if it's missing two central pillars of Mexican cuisine -- chilis and corn -- well, it ain't Mexican. I had a burrito al pastor, and it was fine. Plentiful, but by no means as big as you're going to get anywhere in the States or northern Mexico, regardless of whether gringos make it, or Mexicans, or Mexican Americans. By the way, this is not even a burrito by any Northern Mexican or Tex-Mex standards. It's basically a quesadilla (quesadillas in Mexico don't have to have cheese but they are grilled, as this one is) folded on the ends and rolled in wax paper, and cut in half. The pastor? Salty, tender-ish, chunked, not shreddable certainly, not all that flavorful, cause, you know, no chilis, and not a trace of smoke. The guac was just weird. Watery and yellowish green, more yellow than green, and avocado-flavored, I guess. There are flecks of red pepper (?) in it to fool us that there are chilis? Or tomato? I dunno. The signs tout the fact that guac comes with everything, and there's a big molcajete on the counter full of guac. It stays there all day long without changing color so that should tell you there's definitely something weird going on with that guacamole. A pretentious Argentine woman freaked out because of those little red flecks. She asked the counter dude if it was picante. He said no, and I concur, but she said, oh yes, it is, and actually scraped that little red fleck off onto the counter. If someone studies it, we will probably discover that the Argentine aversion to spice is rooted in anti-Latino bias. Cause Argentines aren't Latinos, they're Europeans, or criollos, whatever, and don't you forget it. Anyway. So why three stars? I guess because it's filling for 110 pesos, I like the setup on the street, I like the dudes, I like the mercado, I like San Telmo. The burrito was good in that way that good frozen meals are good, ya know? You don't expect it to be any good, and when it's decent, you're somehow more grateful.

The margaritas are fantastic and the tacos were good. Their guacamole felt lacking and the chips it came with tasted exactly like Fritos. All-in-all, seems like more of a bar than a restaurant. The food is suitable for eating while hanging out at a bar and is priced as such. Tasty, but not an ideal place for dinner. I'd definitely go back for a margarita though!
