  Brief History of the Irurzun Hospital Don José Irurzun, respectable and old neighbor, died on May 22, 1927, leaving a legacy, whose funds would be used for the construction of a public hospital in Quequén. At the beginning of 1933, a first aid room was set up that worked free of charge for the population, sustained with the private contribution of doctors, generous neighbors and with the support of the Unión Vecinal de Fomento. The attention was in charge of doctors who attended free consultations. Among those dedicated professionals were Carlos Acuña, Roberto Ramovecchi, Horacio Ayrolo, José Brun and Juan B. Flores, among others. The service was efficient and every day the number of people who came to receive assistance increased. But over time the room was overwhelmed by the demands of a constantly growing population. It was not long before the small room had already treated 6,000 people and the construction of a hospital became evident. The "José Irurzun" NATIONAL HOSPITAL was inaugurated on February 10, 1947. The ceremony was presided over by the Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, Colonel Domingo A. Mercante, and the Secretary of Public Health of the Nation, Dr. Ramón Carrillo. The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Roberto E. Kursac, also participated, highlighting among others the presence of deputy Bressa. In the opening speech, the generosity of the Loidi family and the participation of Dr. Carlos Alberto Pueyrredón, testamentary executor of Dr. José Irurzun, were highlighted. Dr. Carrillo emphasized the appointment of Dr. José Brun as chief of surgery, since this area was fundamental in the operation of a hospital.
